Conclusion

After spending the time to research Carvel and speaking with the owner and manager, our team has discovered that behind the high quality products, a lot of time and effort goes into each process. Quality and flexibility were almost equally ranked on Mr. Woodward's scale of importance, which is what separates Carvel from its competitors. Team 1 has learned that other being able to put together an ice cream sundae or create an ice cream cake, there are also several other activities taking place in the shop. What intrigued us most about Carvel was the way that Mr. Woodward could handle all of his inventory without any special software and the fact that his business caters to every type of customer that walks through the door. With every company, there are always ways to improve, which is why we recommended the clock in and out system for employees, as well as a computer system to monitor the inventory. Overall, this experience has taught us how important daily operations in a business really are. See Appendix B for Gantt Chart.
